This is where you learn about a few of my idiosyncrasies. Where I land in time and space as it were—my inspirations and a bit of how I came to writing Not My People’s Publication.

Author, Pastor, Wanderer of the Vast Landscape of the Kingdom of God

The first thing that you would notice if we met is that I’m an awkward fish. It’s not that I don’t play well with others, but I tend to cut through the interface of appropriate contextual behaviour to either be unreasonably quiet and observant or overshare real fast. I have been known to be so lost in thought or purpose as to not recognise when my name is called or not realise when a good friend is staring me in the face while I look for them in a crowded room. Hyperfocus is my middle name—no actually it’s Leland.

Born in 1989 in the State of Indiana, I’m a child of the 90’s—but, being raised in an Evangelical Fundamentalist context means that I’m the thought-child of the 40’s with every decade that came after it. My voice was built for smooth jazz, folk and radio and my humour is a mixture of Phil Visscher,1 Robin Williams and nearly every film I’ve ever watched.

I write pastorally to my community in a way that applies to all people, but mostly to my own heart. I don’t write anything that doesn’t first come from a place of deep repentance for my part in 35 years of broken behaviour. If you read around Not My People’s Publication you’ll find that I can be quite serious in my tone, but whimsical when it suits the moment.

I live in Northern Ireland with my wife, and kids and am a stay at home dad.

Not My People’s Publication is the teaching outlet for Ammi Ruhama Community Christian Union which I set up in March of 2020 to gather together online with a few spiritually displaced friends that is now a Facebook group of 120 members and a Substack community of nearly 70 subscribers.

You can read more about my testimony in The Paul Bettany Experience.

Not My People's Publication is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
